Farnborough Air Show 2018 - Day 4

Alas, no Emirates order and this is an airline that likes to make a big splash at the huge industry events like Farnborough and Paris.  Boeing did finalize the 787-9 order with Hawaiian thus stealing away an Airbus customer that had ordered the A350 then the A330-800NEO.  Boeing also got LoIs from two customers for 15 787-9 though the split wasn't revealed.

Airbus scored a large order for the A330NEO from Air Asia X.  Boeing was trying to steal this order away from Airbus but ultimately lost out to Airbus since Air Asia is a huge Airbus customer.

Farnborough Air Show 2018 - Day 3

Overall a pretty good day for Boeing's 737 MAX as it captured a huge 100 plane order from VietJet as well as from 4 unidentified customers but Airbus did get more widebody orders in the form of the A330NEO.

Tomorow is the last day so I'm still waiting for Emirates to finalize their order.

Hello? Anyone from Emirates listening out there?

ATR and Bombardier finally got on the board with a few orders but overall this has been the show for the two majors plus Embraer.

Farnborough Air Show 2018 - Day 2

The second day of Farnborough saw Boeing receive a couple more orders for the 787-9 which appear to be firm orders.  First was Steven Udvar-Hazy's Air Lease Corp which placed a top up order for 3 x 787-9.  Vistara Airlines came in with their order for 6 x 787-9 along with 4 options.  This was a surprise as I expected them to firm up this order later this year.  Nonetheless, Boeing added a new customer that will be flying the 787 which is always welcome.

Airbus did win the day however with a large orders for the A320NEO and the A220 (Bombardier's C-Series).  Airbus also got some significant widebody orders as well.  Boeing was able to secure orders from Volga-Dnepr for 747 and 777 freighters as well as more 737 MAX orders from Air Lease and Aviation Capital Group.

I'm still hoping for the Emirates 787 order for tomorrow.

Farnborough Air Show 2018 - Day 1

Farnborough 2018 kicked off this morning with a nice order from DHL for 14 777F freighters but by the end of the day Airbus had won the day's order race with numerous new orders for the A320neo.  Most of Boeing's announcements were for orders that had been already booked as unidentified including 4 x 787-9s by United Airlines.

I'm still anticipating that Emirates will finalize their 787 order this week.  That will be a big deal and a welcome one for the 787-10 which I think needs a boost in orders.

Here's the order totals thus far:

Airbus

Goshawk - 20 x A320NEO Firm
Macquarie AirFinance - 20 x A320NEO Firm
SalamAir - 1 x A320NEO Firm

Boeing had a great month with regards to delivery of 787s in June.  They recorded the second highest total of Dreamliners delivered in one month since they started turning 787s over to customers in September 2011.  Boeing delivered 17 787s (2 x 787-8, 13 x 787-9 2 x 787-10) in the month on June including the 700th 787 to China Southern Airlines on June 26th.  Boeing had delivered 18 787s in December 2014. For the year Boeing has delivered 72 787s (4 x 787-8, 62 x 787-9 and 6 x 787-10).  Since program deliveries began in September 2011 Boeing has delivered 708 787 (354 x 787-8, 348 x 787-9 and 6 x 787-10).

The high delivery rate in June was due to Boeing catching up to miss deliveries related to the Trent 1000 issues that forced Roll Royce to delay delivery of Trents to Boeing for installation on newly assembled 787s.  Boeing delivered 10 Trent powered 787s in June. The average number of production days for those 10 787s was 81.7 days whereas the average number of production days of the 7 GE powered 787s delivered in June was 67.7 days. Going forward the deliveries of 787s should normalized back to the 12/month rate due the greater number of GE powered 787s vs Trent 787s.

On the order front, Boeing did not book any new orders in June though there are MoUs from Bamboo Airways of Vietnam (20 x 787-9) and 6 x 787-9 for Vistara Airlines of India.  These orders have yet to be finalized but I anticipate that they will be by the end of the year barring any unfortunate issues that may occur due to the current trade war.

I do expect some nice orders for the 787 to be announced at the Farnborough Airshow which starts tomorrow including some firm orders including those of Emirates, Hawaiian and possibly United Airlines.  As in previous airshows, I will put out a daily recap of the commercial aircraft orders at Farnborough each day.

Of course you can check my spreadsheets on the latest production and delivery progress of the 787 program which is updated daily.
