Boeing delivers first 787 to Avianca....finally

Update from my earlier post.   Avianca has finally taken possession of its first 787 yesterday.  The aircraft ZA665 (LN 217, N780AV) was reported at the Everett Delivery Center by sources. This indicates that the aircraft is due to depart from Everett soon.

This aircraft had a very long gestation period at Everett spending over 6 months from the start of final assembly to delivery at Everett.  It is suspected that there were seat issues but also financing issues that held up delivery.  Avianca is expected to take three more 787s before the end of the month.

This article is suggesting that Air India may be looking to convert some of its remaining 787-8 order into 787-9's

I guess I'd be okay with it if they did that. The 9 seats more and has better range with similar fuel efficiency. I don't know why it isn't selling more, of the 3 variants. And no, I'm not a robot.

What's the latest on the Azerbaijan bird?

I continue to be impressed with the Charleston assembly process. Out of the last 15 frames, the average time between roll-out and first flight is 18.6 days, with the best time being 12 days. Everett is running an average of 50.7 days between roll-out and first flight (for the latest 15 frames to fly)

You must consider the fact that Charleston has to fly their planes out to be painted where Everett usually does the painting on-site.

That's the same point I have made a few times of late expressed a little differently. As of today Everitt has 10 built and yet to fly whereas Charleston has just one to fly. Quite a difference.

Maybe, just maybe the Everett Unions are not really happy to come to work compared to non-union Charleston. Just saying.

LN12 and LN13 were sold to LOT Polish Airlines:

http://www.b787register.com/airframes/airframe.php?ln=13

Regs will be SP-LRG and SP-LRH

This is speculation. This site is notorious for unsubstantiated information as it hasn't been confirmed by my sources.

Piotrek_ said...

Sure. If it true, then few people in Poland will be trying to get confirmation from carrier itself. LOT is easy target for media now, so we should know rather fast.

Was the Azerbaijan delivery in fact VP-BBS (L/N 247) as the delivery flight (which has just come over me in the UK) originated in Charleston rather than Everett? Season's greetings. Paul

Everett

Uresh, It looks like LN11 (KAL VIP) has been delayed for several additional months and is back in the EMC... have new problems been discovered? Wishing you and all a great holiday and thanks for keeping the blog going, it's still fun to watch this aircraft come to life.

Uresh said...

It's been delayed to April. No reason given.

LN 247 for AHY delivered from CHS today as well.

Uresh said...

What is your source for LN247 delivery?

Piotrek_ said...

ureshs, you were right. LN12 and LN13 probably won't go to LOT Polish Airlines, but situation still isn't clear. It looks like deal between Boeing and LOT isn't signed, as they deffered 2 last 788s much further beyond 2016 and they want now to take delivery of both in Q1 of 2016. You will see what happen with next firing order updates...

Hi, you should note that, in the delivery table by customer, you have posted that 2 787 were delivered to azerbaijan airlines. There is a mistake, i think, due to the fact that you have written these in the column of the 787-9 2014, but it seems Azerbaijan received 787-8

were the 787 delivered to azerbaijan airlines 787-8 or 787-9? there is a mismatch in the deliver by customer table.

Always the good sport I see the Lazy B came through so far with 14 deliveries and possibly more to come in December. With 6 delivered in November, this meets their goal of 20 which I did not expect could ever happen.
Congrats Boeing, very impressive!
Now, where are those damned seats???
